CWU Graduate Won Another Honorable Mention at 31th Han Suyin International Translation Contest

Last week, the winners’ list of The 31st Han Suyin International Translation Contest” came out and was published on the WeChat Public Platform of Chinese Translators Journal. Miss Han Wanjuan, a Grade-2015 English major of the Department of Foreign Languages of China Womens University (CWU), won an honorable mention in the event of English-Chinese Translation. It is already the fifth time for CWU students to win awards in this event. Before this, three English majors had won three honorable mentions in 2013, 2014 and 2018 respectively, and one English minor (double degree) won a third prize in 2016.

The 31st Han Suyin International Translation Contest” is jointly sponsored by the Translators Association of China, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Fujian Normal University. The Contest includes two-way translations between Chinese and the five foreign languages of English, French, Russian, Spanish and Arabic, which add up to ten events in all. According to the organizers, a total of 11,898 valid translations were received, among which 6,826 were English-Chinese versions. The judges carried out three rounds of strict assessment and review on the submissions before winding up the event with one first prize, 15 second prizes, 30 third prizes and 124 honorable mentions. The source text of English-Chinese event this year is titled “Outing A.I.: Beyond the Turing Test.

Miss Han is currently working for a translation company in Beijing.
