CWU Holds 4th Basic Skills Competition for Counselors
In order to promote mutual learning among student counselors, help them to master core abilities and improve their work efficiency, China Women’s University (CWU) held the fourth Basic Skills Competition for Counselors on November 25.
The event was co-sponsored by the Student Affairs Office and the CWU Trade Union (CWUTU). Directors and teachers from CWUTU, the Publicity Department, Organization Department, Recruitment and Employment Office, Personnel Direction, and other functional departments served as judges. Some 26 qualified and part-time counselors participated in the competition.
The organizers comprehensively tested counselors’ logic, language and emergency management capacity through the assessment of their basic knowledge, conversations, publicity and other skills on the spot. During the event, actors played the role of students with different kinds of problems, and the counselors were responsible for answering them.
Facing different students with complicated problems including depression, stubbornness and back-chat, counselors grasped the main points, patiently helped them open up, and solved their difficulties with amiable words and smiles. Concentrating on students with emotional strains, the counselors carefully listened to their problems, carried out psychological counseling, and helped them out to tide them through their difficult circumstances.
Facing students with learning problems, the counselors analyzed the causes, and encouraged students to reshape their study goals. The scenario simulation vividly inspected counselors’ integrated ability for solving problems through knowledge. After intense competition, the judges selected two first prize-winners, five second prizes and eight third places.
The event aimed to strengthen counselors’ professional skills, mutual learning, promote and lay solid foundations for their daily work, and finally improve the specialization and construction of Counselor troops.
