CWU’s Law School Conducts Lessons at Trial Court Site

Learners from the Law School at China Women’s University (CWU) who started their course in 2012 and 2013 took part in a teaching practice session at a courtroom in Beijing Dongcheng District People’s Court on the morning of April 29, 2015, led by professional teachers.

The students watched the proceedings of the case “Unnamed Publishing Company Sued the Education Bureau of Unnamed County for the Sake of Infringing Information Network-Spreading Rights”, one of the first times it has happened. The case was representative of intellectual property rights disputes and involved the rules regarding the “Intellectual Property Law” and the “Civil Procedure Law” that the learners had previously studied.

After the trial, the chief in charge clearly and concisely explained the related entities and procedural challenges referred to in the practice trial of the case and similar kinds. In addition, the chief provided detailed answers focusing on the doubts that learners had about the trial and through their daily learning, all of which led to a good teaching lesson.

The activity was helpful for the law school to try and explore a practical teaching approach. The students learned to associate the theoretical knowledge they had acquired at school with practical cases in court through watching and being involved in the realistic mock-trial of the case and interacting with the judicial officers. In the end, they were able to more directly, clearly and completely understand the whole procedures of civil actions and thought it a good law-learning method.
